Nicaragua Update, May 31, 2018

Dear Ministry Partners,

We hope this finds you well and enjoying the beginning of summer.

Our love for Nicaragua began 18 years ago when we made our first short term mission trip. We fell in love with the people of Nicaragua and couldn’t wait to return. And return we did many many times and as you know we moved there permanently to serve in 2011.

Over the past seven years we have watched God do amazing things in Granada and all over Nicaragua. We have shared this with many short term missionaries as they have come to serve alongside us sharing the gospel and God’s love to so many.

Over the last few weeks there has been civil unrest in Nicaragua. There have been over 100 people who have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured. The level of violence is increasing daily. Many in Nicaragua say that this will only get worse until there is a change in the government. We are not posting anything on Facebook regarding these happenings due to the fact that social media is being monitored by the government. We can’t stress enough how dangerous this situation has become.

Due to this unrest we have made the decision to cancelled our teams for the summer. Needless to say we are heartbroken. We love having them serve with us sharing the gospel and loving on our kids and adults in the programs. The teams also bring to us needed supplies, clothing, shoes, etc. that we use in the ministry.

Our staff is continuing to carry on the work of the ministry daily in Granada with caution. Addys reports a higher number of children coming to the feeding program daily and this week we had an elderly woman who brings her grandchildren asking for a meal.

We anticipate the numbers will continue to increase because the parents are unable to work. Due to the unrest many people have lost their jobs in the hotel, restaurant and tourist industry. Addys is beginning to see a shortage of food and necessities in the grocery stores and markets. We fear that our mission in Nicaragua will soon turn to disaster relief with so many without work.

We come to you today and ask for your prayers for the people of Nicaragua. Pray for peace, safety and healing. We ask that you especially pray for our staff. Addys, Julissa, Fatima and Jesse. They are ministering to the people each and every day, showing God’s love. Pray for their strength and safety.

We thank you all for your continued prayers and support for the ministry and we know that you will join us in saying extra prayers for the people of Nicaragua.

God Bless,

Darrell and Linda

Addys, Julissa, Fatima and Jesse
